Siding in Plymouth, MN.

Plymouth calls usually involve a 1980s or 1990s two-story whose hardboard or early vinyl is swelling, cracking, or fading, or a townhome community weighing its next exterior cycle. We scope single-wall repairs and full replacements alike, and we keep the pricing plain.

What drives siding decisions in Plymouth?

Plymouth built out heavily from the 1970s through the 2000s, so many homes are two-stories, splits, and walkouts in a fairly narrow age range. Hardboard lap from that period is a frequent removal, and it often hides swollen edges and soft spots near the ground and below windows.

Lakes such as Medicine Lake, Parkers Lake, and Bass Lake, along with ponds throughout newer developments, mean many lots have a wet or shaded side. Those walls tend to grow algae and hold moisture behind the siding longer than sunny walls.

Plymouth also has a lot of townhome and association housing. Shared exteriors bring palette rules and multi-building scheduling, which we plan alongside the board before any material is ordered.

Plymouth pricing · 2026

What siding costs in Plymouth (2026)

Each price is per square, a square being 100 square feet of finished wall, and includes stripping and hauling off the old siding. Plymouth two-stories and walkouts run mid-to-large, so the brackets start at 16 squares.

These are Midwest Building Exteriors' own current 2026 installed prices, confirmed directly by owner Christian Musta: vinyl $900–$950 per square; LP SmartSide and fiber cement $1,200–$1,300 per square depending on finish; and steel $1,300–$1,500 per square (about $13–$15 per sq. ft.), dependent on various factors. One siding square equals 100 square feet of wall.

Ranges are installed totals in 2026 dollars — removal and disposal of the existing siding, house wrap, flashing and kickout details, trim, fasteners, permit, and cleanup included. They are planning numbers, not a quote. Wall area, number of stories, trim and gable complexity, window count, sheathing repair, and color availability all move the final figure. Repairs and partial-wall work are quoted on their own; there is no job-size minimum.

Which siding works best on a Plymouth home?

We install all four systems and have no house brand to sell. Here is how they compare on the hardboard-era homes and pond-side lots typical of Plymouth.

Why we default to LP SmartSide — and what the research actually says

Read this as a note on fiber cement in general, not on any branded line. The product's cement core is porous, and peer-reviewed testing showed that cycling it through freezing and thawing changes both its internal makeup and its bending strength (Gorzelańczyk & Schabowicz, Materials journal, 2019, retrieved 2026-09-16). Walls backing onto Plymouth's ponds stay damp and catch more of that cycling.

Building Science Corporation's multi-season Vancouver hut research on fiber-cement walls found performance hinged mostly on drainage and drying behind the boards (BSC Research Report RR-1306, retrieved 2026-09-16). InspectAPedia's documented failures, open seams and dried-out caulk, circle back to clearance and flashing (InspectAPedia field reports, retrieved 2026-09-16). We think LP SmartSide tolerates real-world install variance better, so it is our default; for owners or boards who specify fiber cement, our crews hold to the manufacturer's printed details.

Is steel siding storm-proof?

Steel resists flame and decay and stays flat on long walls, but hail can still pock the surface, and dented gutters are often an adjuster's first evidence. Choose it because it lasts and needs little care, not because of hail.

HOA & association palettes

Does your Plymouth association need to approve siding colors?

Plymouth has a lot of attached housing, and most of it runs exterior changes past a board. We prepare the board's packet for you: physical swatches, daylight photos of the building, and a written spec of product, color and trim laid out the way the board asks for it.

Where the approved color has been discontinued, we propose the nearest current shade and flag it as a stand-in.

Large communities can be walked one building at a time and staged under a single contract. See our townhome and HOA siding and commercial siding pages.

  • Swatches checked against your building on site
  • Board packet in the format your board requests
  • Flagged stand-in for discontinued colors
  • Building-by-building staging
  • One contact for board, manager and residents

Do you handle siding repairs in Plymouth?

Yes, no minimum. Hardboard swelling at grade, a split panel beside the deck, or a section opened to correct flashing can be its own job.

Hardboard and first-generation vinyl are often off the market, and years of sun shift their color, so we warn you when a patch would show and quote the full side instead.

Insulated siding is an option on any Plymouth project, listed separately.

Who else does siding work in Plymouth?

Plymouth homeowners and boards tend to collect several siding bids, often from names found online or on a neighbor's yard sign. We checked the state license records for the siding outfits we most often see competing for the same jobs in the northwest and west metro.

This is a fair reference, not criticism. Each listed company holds a Minnesota residential building contractor license. We report the record as written, flag anything unconfirmed, and you make the call.

The export's enforcement-action field is marked, but the export provides no action type, date, outcome, case number, or order text; we therefore make no claim about what occurred. • Minnesota Exteriors Inc — Licensed and active with no enforcement flag, and one of the oldest license records in the export — originally issued January 1992. A separate entity, Minnesota Exteriors Commercial LLC (BC741401), holds its own active license for commercial work.
  • Twin Cities Siding & Roofing — Licensed and active with no enforcement flag. Note the operating entity name differs from the trade name — worth checking that the contract you are handed names the licensed entity.
  • TWS Remodeling — Licensed and active with no enforcement flag. An earlier, similarly named license (BC283598, Window Store LLC The) shows as voluntarily terminated — the current active record is the one above.
  • Garrett Construction — Licensed and active with no enforcement flag; the license number published on their own site matches the state record. The license was originally issued in August 2021, which is worth weighing against marketing that cites a longer operating history.
  • Anchor Roofing & Exteriors — Licensed and active with no enforcement flag. As with several on this list, the licensed entity name differs from the trade name you see on the truck.

License numbers, status, expiry, and addresses below are taken from the Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry residential contractor license export, retrieved 2026-09-16. License status and enforcement flags change — confirm current status yourself at dli.mn.gov before you sign anything with anyone, including us. BBB accreditation and rating are shown as unverified because we could not retrieve BBB's own published listings at the time of writing; we would rather label that gap than repeat a number we have not read at the source.

Plymouth siding questions

How much does siding cost in Plymouth, MN?
Vinyl is $900 to $950 per square (100 square feet), LP SmartSide and fiber cement are $1,200 to $1,300, and steel is $1,300 to $1,500. A typical 22 to 28 square Plymouth two-story runs about $19,800 to $26,600 in vinyl or $26,400 to $36,400 in LP SmartSide or fiber cement.
How long does a Plymouth siding replacement take?
Three to five days for vinyl, LP SmartSide, or fiber cement, and four to five days for steel. Board sign-off and rot discovered under hardboard can shift the calendar.
What should replace old hardboard siding?
In our opinion LP SmartSide is the natural successor: a similar look with much better resistance to edge swelling and winter cycling. We also install vinyl, fiber cement and steel.
Does a pond behind my house affect siding?
Often, yes. The wall facing the water or sitting in shade stays wet longer, so algae and soft sheathing tend to appear there first, and we check it closely.
Is steel siding hail-proof?
No. It will not rot or burn, but hail can still pock the surface.
Do you handle association approvals in Plymouth?
Yes. Your board gets swatches, photos and a written spec from us, plus a flagged stand-in if an approved color is discontinued.
Can you fix just one section of siding?
Yes. When a patch would visibly differ from faded siding, we warn you and quote the whole side as an alternative.
Is storm damage something you can help with?
We record the damage with photos and send it to your own insurance adjuster. Our job is the repair; we do not act as your public adjuster.
